Spongebob Squarepants (Key Art Development)
Strategy
Create exciting art for the Broadway musical, co-conceived and directed by Tina Landau with songs by artists like David Bowie and Brian Eno, Panic! at the Disco, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper and Rob Hyman, and others. It is based on the Nickelodeon animated television series. Key art would serve as the foundation for promotional materials like outdoor signage, direct mailings, and motion graphics.
Approach
There were several things the art needed to do with this campaign like have the art have the same sense of play and irreverence of the show, make the show feel elevated and not childish, bring out some of handcrafted qualities the show revels in and have it not feel like one is going to walk into a show with fully costumed characters.
